Reader question: How can I get rid of bad dreams?
My answer:
That depends on the nature of the bad dreams.
If the dreams are about a single subject, address that issue. For example, if the dreams are about a fight you had with someone, focus on forgiving that person. If the dreams are about getting fired from your job, have a conversation with yourself about the way in which you might actually be better off if you lost your current job.
However, if your nightmares are varied, and the only common element is that they are scary, focus on your big fears of life and death. If you can identify your biggest worries and stresses, address those. If you believe in a benevolent God and in an afterlife, reaffirm those beliefs. Remind yourself that you are protected and safe.
Another cause of bad dreams can be your physical state. Make sure you get some exercise, consider doing yoga and/or qigong, eat well, avoid caffeine and excess alcohol, and get regular medical checkups.
May the world be kind to you, and may your own thoughts be gentle upon yourself.

A new command I give you: Love one another.
As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
- Jesus of Nazareth (John 13:34)
If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need
but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?
- 1 John 3:17
Guide our feet into the way of peace.
- Luke 1:79
Depart from Me, you cursed... for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.
- Matthew 25:41-43
It is common for those that are farthest from God,
to boast themselves most of their being near to the Church.
- Matthew Henry
I highly recommend that you go to to time.com/3856484/america-christian-nation/ to read Time magazine's article: If America Became a Christian Nation.
The essence of the article is...
1. To be truly Christian is to follow the teachings of Jesus, and to live the principles He lived.
2. A number of the principles held most dear by some who stridently claim Christianity are actually diametrically opposed to Jesus' principles. These include war; a gun culture; choosing to deny food, health care, and love to the sick and poor among us; and excluding migrants.

Physical Pain
Reader question: I experience a lot of pain after a recent surgery, how can I remain joyful and positive in spite of this?
My reply:
Physical pain is the most challenging obstacle we have to face, and the one least amenable to overcoming purely through attitude. Nonetheless..
1. First apply a positive attitude toward the the other issues that are probably accompanying your physical pain, such as… the fear that the pain will get worse or never go away. Unlike physical pain, fear and worry are relatively easy to overcome through a positive attitude.
2. I find great help from self healing, and those who are more inclined toward prayer healing often find that helpful. There are many systems of self healing or prayer healing, but you can also just keep it very simple. Visualize a white light shining down on the painful area, and give thanks in advance for the healing that is about to occur. Whether is is due to the power of God, the placebo effect, or something else entirely, it does work for those who believe it works.
3. Just take one day at a time — or one minute at a time when the pain is really bad. Believe that tomorrow will be a better day.
Tell your heart that the fear of suffering
is worse than the suffering itself.
- Paulo Coelho
Anyone can heal who believes that he can
and will take the time to put that belief into motion.
- Ernest Holmes
Gratitude in advance is the most powerful
creative force in the universe.
- Neale Donald Walsch
Courage doesn't always roar.
Sometimes courage is the quiet voice
at the end of the day, saying,
"I will try again tomorrow."
